Telecom OSP Engineer – Hawaii / Remote

Mid-State Consultants, a telecommunications engineering and consulting division of JSI, is seeking several experienced Telecom OSP Engineers to assist us in high-volume Fiber To The Home (FTTx) design for our clients in Hawaii.
Relocation is not necessary. However, it does require a 3-month on-site training to learn the client’s software, along with our practices and standards. Once fully trained, this will become a remote position.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES (include but are not limited to):

  • Are you able to work with Make Ready design for both aerial and underground existing infrastructure to include pole rebuilding to make room for new cables and cable consolidation (mostly in copper) to increase infrastructure space within an existing underground infrastructure to make room for new cables?
  • Do you thrive on challenge, and can you thrive in a high volume, quick turnaround work atmosphere? For example, if given a land base map and boundaries of the area we need to be designed, are you confident with the information provided above that you can complete the design in 15 days?

We are looking for your skills as an experienced high-volume fiber distribution engineer able to design from the Central Office to the Fiber Distribution Hub to the Customer prem. (+500 homes; has done at least 50 poles/handholes)

  • Create a high volume of House Holds Engineered (HHE) a month from High-Level Designs of facilities placement for brownfield fiber design
  • Determine the ideal location for new above and below-ground facilities and equipment
  • Field client calls and field customer issues
  • Corresponds and directs the work of a ROW Agent and Construction Supervisor
  • Works in conjunction with the Inside Plant Group
  • Accurately depict new construction route opportunities on work prints/staking sheets
  • Handle all job aspects from the cradle to the grave, including planning, designing, and engineering

REQUIREMENTS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Prefer someone that can perform high-volume FTTx design engineering.
  • Familiar with utilizing client-based programs (preferred), including but not limited to OCalcs Pro, Detailed Auto Cad Drafting, GComms Posting, GComms Cleaning/ Updating, or experience with hand-drawn engineering onto a land base map using google earth, OCalc Pro, field notes and pictures
  • Familiar with Make Ready design for both aerial and underground existing infrastructure to include pole rebuilding to make room for new cables and cable consolidation (mostly in copper) to increase infrastructure space within an existing underground infrastructure to make room for new cables
  • Previous experience and knowledge of OSP Telecom Construction and Engineering is a must.
  • Must be able to use GIS and Google Earth/Maps to verify designs and potential house counts, along with maps created by the Mid-State Consultants Hawaii team.
  • Must be able to do complete layout from FDH to home.
  • Highly organized, self-starter, and detail-oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
  • Superior time management and strong attention to detail
  • Must provide own vehicle
