We are expanding our team and looking for someone passionate about connectivity, communications, and client service, working in a cross-matrixed and cross-functional environment. You will work for our Regulatory Affairs Department in our Greenbelt, MD office. The Regulatory Affairs Department assists telecom, broadband, and video/cable and wireless clients comply with a host of federal and state rules and regulations, including assessing regulations and their impact, designing and enacting effective compliance procedures, and assisting in filing required applications and waivers.

You will develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential clients through effective oral and written communications. You will advise clients on compliance with federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.

You will facilitate client compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and manage client relationships through effective oral and written communications to obtain and deliver information promptly. You will also help develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs for our clients, which may include preparing webinars, training, and written materials. You may also conduct audits of client filings to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

You may also maintain and track federal filing deadlines, including monitoring the Federal Register, FCC Daily Digest, and other sources for deadlines. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with state filings and grant applications, developing and maintaining templates for forms and documents, including but not limited to checklists, cover letters, requests for confidentiality, correspondence, and disclosure statements the Regulatory Affairs Department routinely uses.

This position has a minimum billable-hours requirement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or Juris Doctor (JD) degree preferred.
  • One to four years’ legal or policy experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry.

  • Enjoys interacting with clients.
  • Proficiency in software programs such as those in the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Ability to work well with individuals across diverse teams and cultures.

About the Regulatory Affairs Department:

The Regulatory Affairs Department provides regulatory, legislative, policy, and compliance counsel to JSI departments and JSI clients. Specifically, we provide services in three distinct areas: (1) federal compliance, (2) federal advocacy and strategy, and (3) state compliance and policy. With decades of staff expertise ranging from state public service commissions, the Federal Communications Commission, and in-house at communications companies, we advise clients, develop strategies, and implement projects for clients on a wide range of issues before both state and federal agencies and departments. We also partner with other JSI departments to identify, assess, and manage state and federal funding projects for clients.
