Get to know Brian
Brian Whitaker, P.E., brings deep engineering experience and a practical understanding of what it takes to move broadband projects from planning to reality. As President of Engineering at JSI, Brian works alongside broadband providers to develop network solutions that balance technical requirements, long-term goals, and the needs of the communities they serve.
With a background rooted in outside plant engineering and fiber network deployment, Brian understands that successful projects depend on more than a strong design. They require collaboration, attention to detail, and a team that understands the challenges providers face throughout the process. His approach is focused on building trusted relationships and helping clients move their projects forward with confidence.
The best engineering solutions start with listening to the client and understanding what they’re trying to accomplish. Our job is to bring the experience and technical expertise that helps turn that vision into a network that will serve their community for years to come.
Professional Experience and Accomplishments
Brian has spent much of his career supporting telecommunications providers through outside plant engineering, network design, and broadband deployment. Before joining JSI, he served as President of Mitchell Engineering, a telecommunications engineering and consulting firm with decades of experience serving providers throughout Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Under Brian’s leadership, Mitchell Engineering supported hundreds of fiber-to-the-premises projects and helped providers expand the critical broadband infrastructure serving their communities. When Mitchell Engineering joined JSI in 2022, Brian continued leading the Wills Point, Texas team while becoming part of JSI’s expanding Fiber Network Design & Engineering organization.
Brian later served as a Regional Vice President at JSI and today is Vice President of Engineering Services, helping lead teams that support broadband providers with engineering and design needs across the country. His combination of technical expertise, leadership experience, and understanding of the communities JSI serves helps ensure clients have a knowledgeable partner throughout every stage of their network journey.
Brian earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Tyler and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
